Joining is Easy!

Click here to join. All volunteers registering with MRC must be registered in their applicable state data base. The Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP) is a federal program created in order to support states and territories in establishing standardized volunteer registration programs for disasters and public health and medical emergencies. ESAR-VHP is now administered by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). ASPR assists each state and territory in establishing a standardized volunteer registration program.

Requirements to Join

Must be 18 years or older
Must complete an approved training in order to maintain Liability Protection (Ohio Revised Code Sections 5502.281 and 3701.04).
Must comply with any other additional training requirements of the Group you join.
Must complete all required fields when filling out your volunteer profile.
Must ensure your profile is up to date at all times (contact information, professional license, etc).

Ohio Residents

Ohio Responds is Ohio’s version of the nationally-mandated ESAR-VHP system and is a partnership between Ohio Emergency Management Agency (OEMA) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). The Ohio Responds Volunteer Registry is the State of Ohio’s online system for managing public health and medical disaster responder volunteers. This site supports a variety of personnel who may be utilized during disasters; all-hazard response efforts and public health activities. It is used to register, notify, and inform willing individuals who are interested in volunteering. ODH is the coordinating agency for Ohio Medical Reserve Corps. Ohio residents can register to be a volunteer on the Ohio Responds Website.

Kentucky Residents
The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) has established the Kentucky Health Emergency Listing of Professionals for Surge (K-HELPS) program. K-HELPS is a web-based online registration system developed to facilitate health and medical response through identification, credentialing, and deployment of Kentuckians willing to serve in emergency, as well as non-emergency situations. K-HELPS was created in 2005 to offer medical support to areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
K-HELPS complements existing Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) programs. For more information, please visit their site here.

Currently, KDPH is placing emphasis on recruiting physicians, nurses, pharmacists. social workers, radiological technologists, respiratory therapists, and clinical laboratory technologists and technicians. Although all Kentuckians are encouraged to “volunteer” no matter their area of expertise.

Indiana Residents
Indiana residents can register for MRC at the State Emergency Registry of Volunteers for Indiana (SERV-IN) website. SERV-IN is an electronic registration system and database of Local, regional and statewide volunteer programs who want to assist our public health and healthcare systems during an event or disaster. SERV-IN is comprised of Local volunteer coordinators who mobilize medical and non-medical volunteers to respond to emergencies within the community, or if the volunteer is interested, within the state. SERV-IN was created to assist in that process.
